Its computer science department was the first to launch a degree covering the study of computer games, ranked one of the best in the world.

As well as it being a significant player in the worldwide phenomena of video gaming, the region’s long history of excellence in the creative arts includes iconic comic books like The Beano.
Perth College, part of the University of the Highlands and Islands, is the first in Scotland to receive course accreditation from the Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA). It offers honours degrees in Music Business and Popular Music.
Creative innovations aren’t just confined to the artist’s studio… at the James Hutton Institute, researchers have developed the Soil Indicators for Scottish Soils app which enable growers, farmers and land managers in Scotland to quickly identify soil types in their area.
