For over 650 years Glamis Castle has been home to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne. It was the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and birthplace of HRH Princess Margaret. Glamis was also the setting for Shakespeare's 'Macbeth'.

Welcome to Glamis Castle
Celebrating over 650 extraordinary years, step through the gates of Glamis for a journey into history dating back to 1372.
Glamis has been the ancestral seat to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since King Robert II granted the Thanage of Glamis to Sir John Lyon in 1372. Once host to Mary, Queen of Scots, Glamis is said to have inspired one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, Macbeth. Glamis also has a deep connection to today’s Royal Family as it was the childhood home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and birthplace of HRH Princess Margaret.

We have endeavoured to make all areas of the castle and gardens as accessible as possible. Here is some more information about what to expect across the site.
- The Kitchen Restaurant and Coach House exhibition are accessible by wheelchair.
- The disabled restroom is located in the Pavilion Gift Shop.
- The Castle Tour includes a number of stairs to ascend and descend throughout as well as uneven surfaces.

Each of our menus showcase the very best locally sourced seasonal produce and ingredients including many which have been sourced from across the Estate. Our Walled Garden supplies freshly grown seasonal fruit and vegetables to the Castle Kitchen whenever possible.

Once the castle has been explored and the gardens have been admired, the Pavilion Gift Shop is a must when visiting Glamis. Filled with an array of beautiful Scottish gifts and keepsakes, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
