Keynote Conversations

The Global Political Marketing and Management Network 2025 Conference will host four special panels, called ‘Keynote Conversations’.

Keynote conversations will be an interactive and engaging form of keynote speakers where multiple international experts share their thoughts on recent and future trends in political marketing and management and the overall implications.

The Chair will lead the conversation, enabling conference delegates to hear wisdom from multiple keynotes in a more engaged format, and also invite conference delegates to contribute to the conversations by sharing their perspectives and experiences.

About The Global Political Marketing and Management Network

The Global Political Marketing and Management Network was created by Professor Jennifer Lees-Marshment, Professor Jamie Gillies, and Professor Vincent Raynauld in 2024 to stimulate and support research into how marketing and management are used in politics, in government, and in democracies around the world. It seeks to support scholars and students to further their knowledge and understanding of this complex and profoundly influential area of activity. It also welcomes interested practitioners to join in the conversation about Political Marketing and Political Management. Professors Lees-Marshment, Gillies, and Raynauld work at universities in the UK, Canada, and the United States respectively and edit books on political marketing and management in UK, US, Canadian and New Zealand elections.

Style of the event

The event will be organised to support connections and conversations, with longer than typical breaks for lunch/coffee enabling much-needed face-to-face interactions and networking. The emphasis will be on short presentations, with a focus on lessons from and for research and practice. The conference is designed to stimulate constructive comments and discussion.

We will hold Keynote Conversations (as opposed to lectures). Plenary panels will focus on recent key events, research books and future developments, such as the 2024 UK election and 2024 US Presidential Election, the forthcoming Canadian 2025 election, recently published book on Political Management, and the management of political advisors and politicians. We will also organise a practitioner panel.

Scope of the event: anything and anyone related to Political Marketing and Political Management

We welcome contributions and participants from multiple diverse disciplines, fields and organisations and roles as long as it is relevant to Political Marketing and Political Management.

This includes political marketing, political management, political communication, political science, public administration, political leadership, political history, public relations, branding, and political psychology.

And by political, we mean political organisations such as government, parties, campaigns, political offices, political movements, at federal, national, devolved or local level, and political practitioners including party staff, campaign staff, political consultants, political staff, political advisors, politicians, ministers, and candidates.

By marketing, we mean all activities and concepts normally included in marketing courses and research and carried out by marketing companies and consultants, such as market research, market intelligence, market segmentation, big data, targeting, market-orientation, product design, strategy, branding, marketing communications and delivery.

By management, we mean all activities and concepts normally included in university management courses and research and carried out by management companies and consultants, such as human resource management (including wellbeing), strategic management and planning, campaign, party, people and policy management, organisational behaviour, organisational structure, organisational communication, control & power, leadership, reviewing and renewal.

Location - University of Dundee School of Business

The conference will be held at the Carnegie Building, University of Dundee Main Campus, Dundee DD1 4HN.

Dundee is a vibrant and easy-to-get-around city, just east of the Scottish capital, Edinburgh.

The conference will be held across three days, Tuesday 5th, Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th August 2025. We suggest you plan to arrive the day before, on Monday 4th as it will be starting at 9am on the 5th to maximise the time for a blether (the Scottish term for ‘chat’!).

We encourage you to use the trip as an opportunity to explore the north-east of Scotland, if you can. This time of year, it is very pleasant summer temperatures, that avoid the extreme heat of other places in North America and Europe. Dundee, Angus, and Aberdeenshire are easy to get around, and there are also the Highlands in easy reach.

Launched in 2021, GreenSkies is Loganair’s sustainability initiative, which sets out how the company will achieve its ambitious target of becoming net zero by 2040. One part of the initiative is a small mandatory charge as part of every fare; with funds then invested in internationally accredited carbon offset schemes to take the same amount of carbon out of the atmosphere that each flight produces. While the carbon offsetting programme is the first step, Loganair have also been engaging with leading aerospace and technology companies to ensure we can have the systems we need to achieve our carbon-neutral goal.
